Many of our clients have serious charitable instincts and would like to create a vehicle in which their philanthopic wishes can be implemented during their lifetimes and perpetuated after their deaths by their heirs. We counsel clients in creating family non-operating foundations to which they make an initial contribution (for which they receive an income tax deduction) and then make annual distributions from the foundation to other charities. By setting up this structure, clients in essence are teaching their children to understand philanthopy and to productively coexist long after their deaths.

We also have clients who would like to offer scholarships or fund the construction of schools and houses of worship for whom we create private operating foundations and public charities.

Our services in this area include formation of the charitable corporation with the appropriate state authority, preparation of the IRS Application for Recognition of Exemption (Form 1023) and registration with appropriate state and local agencies when requested, and preparation of applicable corporate governance documents.
